Cherokee Park

Take Cherokee Park as far as you want. It gets harder and more remote the closer you get to the 9k foot summit. The end of the road dips down into Laramie River Road. Half way up you can cut across to Sand Creek Pass or Deadman Pass. Everything in the area and Cherokee Park is an epic adventure.

The Stats:

  • Distance: 48 miles - One way

  • Paved: 0%

  • Climbing: 5700 feet

Notes: Cherokee Park is a gateway to a bunch of dirt roads and jeep trails to the south and just about nothing to the north. The gap between Cherokee Park and Laramie/I80 is vast and nothingness. To the south is Red Feather Lakes and a spider web of awesome routes as far as you want to go.

Also, mountains. Have a plan. As you can see from the photo, summer storms roll in crazy fast.

Refills: We highly recommend a good mobile filter set up. The creeks are clean but there are no towns or spouts yet to our knowledge.

Tires: The bigger the better, even where the road is smoother there’s holes, the further out you get the “better” the road gets but more lose and remote roads. A 40mm + Resolute, Nano or Byway are all great options.
