Pennock Pass- Poudre Canyon Loop

This route includes a drive to the intersection of Poudre Canyon and Stove Prairie to allow for a pretty incredible loop with a legit amount of climbing. After climbing for a bit up Stove Prarie, you’ll eventually drop down to the Pennock Pass turn off. This dirt climb is just amazing. Eventually you’ll crest at over 9000 feet before a switchback-y descent into Pingree Park. You’ll mostly loose elevation down to Poudre Canyon and then it’s a fast, downhill 10-miles back to the car.

This route is a part of the 2024 FoCo Fondo Training Series (June Ride- Shorter Option).

The Stats:

  • Distance: 48 miles

  • Paved: 50%

  • Climbing: 4600 feet

Notes: The descent from the top of Pennock has some pretty sketchy turns.

Refills: About 2/3 up Pennock Pass there is a ranger station with a water spigot. Refuel at the Mish on your way home.

Tires: The WTB Vulpine 36 for speed or Vulpine 40 for pleasure.
